Jefferson Clinic, P. C. is a multi-specialty physician practice dedicated to
the provision of quality medical services. Jefferson Clinic, P. C. serves
as a responsive, comprehensive medical resource for its patients, community
and health care providers. Jefferson Clinic P. C. operates in a
cost-effective manner to ensure continued financial viability in order to
meet the medical needs of Jefferson and surrounding counties


                        ROLE STATEMENT

In carrying out its Mission, the role served by Jefferson Clinic P. C. will
be characterized by the following:

a). Jefferson Clinic, P. C. will provide quality medical services to
the underserved populations.

b). Jefferson Clinic, P. C. will continue to provide its services to
all segments of the community without regard to race, color, religion, sex,
age, handicap, or national origin.

c). Jefferson Clinic, P. C. will continue to develop as a
multispecialty physician practice for the medical needs for the communities
served.

d). Jefferson Clinic, P. C. will preserve its ability to serve the
community by operating in a cost-effective manner to ensure continued
financial viability.

e). Jefferson Clinic, P. C. will promote a cooperative relationship
with Jefferson Health System and remain responsive to the needs of
Jefferson County.


                                 Contract Information

 Jefferson Clinic, P.C. has a contract with the Jefferson County Commission to furnish medical care for the indigent population of Jefferson County with the Jefferson Health System. The Jefferson Health System includes Cooper Green Hospital as well as two Community Care sites located strategically throughout Jefferson County. Jefferson Clinic, P.C. also operates a private practice that is operated at 1526 5th Avenue South, across the street from Cooper Green Hospital.

Cooper Green Hospital is the largest hospital to be built in the state in one building phase. The building design can accommodate an additional four floors for patient care. Built in 1972, the Hospital has maintained its technology and services over the years through the County Indigent Care Fund. The Hospital is located in Birmingham Alabama’s downtown medical complex including five other hospitals in addition to the University of Alabama Medical School and Hospitals. The eight-story hospital is licensed for 321 beds including a 12 bed Intensive Care Unit and a non-trauma emergency room. Ambulatory Clinics are operated throughout the hospital and has recently set up the first Palliative Care Unit in the state called the Balm of Gilead Unit. Jefferson Clinic and Jefferson Health System are active with many grants including the Ryan White Grants, Robert Wood Johnson Grants and several other research grants.


Cooper Green Hospital’s average daily census is 80 with an average length of stay of 4.6 days. Additionally, Jefferson Health System provides approximately 140,000 ambulatory visits per year in its various outpatient clinics
