The Samaritan Foundation
Mission
The Samaritan Foundation is composed of three separate but integrated
components: research, education, and clinical care. The mission of the Samaritan
Foundation to assist Jefferson County’s health care delivery system to provide
services that are effective and appropriate in meeting the medical,
psychological, and social needs of underserved, underinsured residents of
Jefferson County. We accomplish this through: research focusing on healthcare
needs of minorities; education of health personnel, patients, and their families
about the principles of high quality preventive and medical care; and the
development and evaluation of models of clinical services for needs associated
with socioeconomic problems confronting the uninsured.
Research
The goals of the research component are to establish scientific excellence with
an integrated program of biomedical, clinical and outcome-based research related
to improving the health status of the uninsured. The ultimate goal is to develop
and test interventions to improve and maintain function and thereby improve
quality of life for this population.
The education program goals are to become a specialized education and training,
research and service dissemination asset focusing on socioeconomic obstacles for
the uninsured, to serve as a network education and training resource, to provide
support and enhance patient and family education efforts connected with the
clinical programs and community based resources, and to provide public education
to raise awareness of healthcare care issues confronting this population.
